It was one of the UK’s most iconic buildings, and home to its most successful art school.To raise money and publicity to rebuild the School, we sent ash from the fire to 25 world-famous artists. Each artist used the ash to create a new work of art.The artists produced an inventive, diverse body of work that reflected the School’s destruction with gravity and wit in equal measure. This was auctioned at Christie’s – the world’s most famous auction house – attracting bids from 28 countries and raising £706,438.The print executions played a vital role in showcasing the works of art, taking them out of the confines of the gallery and out into the public domain. These powerful images embodied the idea of reincarnating the School and drove art lovers to the website and the auction.
