案例简介:Photo by @estherhorvath / This portrait is part of my Women in Arctic Science series, which pays tribute to their role. Julia Martin, a master's student at the Alfred Wegener Institute in Germany, holds a snow depth probe. She's researching how snow influences the thawing of permafrost. She says: “I can't save the people, but I will try to save the planet by pointing to its bleeding wounds and scars. For me, the most vulnerable and most beautiful spots on our Earth lie in high-latitude regions. The cryosphere needs protection and understanding as it's so sensitive and fragile, even though ice masses seem to be solid and long lasting. That's what I am trying to do. Science is my powerful way to try to awaken people.”Please follow @Estherhorvath and @awiexpedition for more polar stories.
