Back in the '90s, refugees from the southern part of Sudan sought shelter in this area, and in 2016 it officially became part of Bidibidi.In decades of war, South Sudanese have been forced back and forth between their home and Uganda. Bidibidi is, with its more than 270,000 people, one of the world's largest refugee settlements. The COVID-19 pandemic made life more difficult for many families in Bidibidi, as schools closed and markets could no longer import food from the nearby cities. In late 2020, life slowly began to return to normal.
