yadav。
Snow leopards patrol their territory, and one of the ways they mark their land is by spraying urine and scent on stones. In India's Himachal Pradesh, a snow leopard approaches a scent-marking location, triggering a camera trap set by photographer @prasen.yadav. Snow leopards are elusive, though sightings have become routine in small pockets within their Central Asian range. It's resulted in a perception that these big cats are doing reasonably well, but the reality is that less than 3 percent of their global habitat has ever been studied. We have scant information about their populations and their prey species compared to other big cats. Snow leopards face both traditional and new threats, including poaching and retaliatory killing as a consequence of livestock depredation as well as habitat degradation and loss of natural prey due to overgrazing by livestock, mining, infrastructure development, and climate change. Researchers and conservationists are working with communities across the 12 countries where snow leopards range to understand the issues and safeguard the long-term survival of this magnificent species.
