He lost everything during the November 2018 wildfire that destroyed his hometown of Paradise, California. Dave now lives in a trailer on the side of a highway. "After the fire, I went to my father's house, which burned to the ground. I was standing in the driveway and I looked down at the dirt and the leaves and the twigs and I saw the dirt, the ground, that I remember as a kid. There is just something about that place. That patch of dirt. If I got on an airplane and went away for 50 years and came back to that one spot it will feel like home. I think that one little spot will always feel like home. It's indescribable. I'm trying very hard and I just cannot." I'm sharing stories from my time with the participants of #rebuildingparadise, a new @natgeodocs film by @realronhoward.
