# ThisWeekOnInstagramPhoto @ quannah.rose by Annaka O'Donoghue

案例简介:“Protecting our way of life and land for future generations keeps me going and motivated,” explains Alaskan Native activist Quannah Rose Chasing Horse Potts (@quannah.rose), who fights for the climate, environmental justice and Indigenous women. She’s advocating for the permanent protection of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, “the sacred place where life begins,” as she describes it.“Being a land and water protector is part of my identity as an Indigenous woman,” says Quannah, whose ancestors are from the Han Gwich’in and Lakota tribes. “I come from a matriarchal society. I’m forever grateful for the women who have shown me true power and helped me recognize MY true power. From a very young age, my mom has always repeated a few things to my siblings and I. One I have always remembered and still continue to repeat to myself is: ‘Remember who you are, and where you come from.’I always think about my ancestors and my roots, how they continue to bless me, protect me and thrive through me. I think about the strong bloodlines coursing through my veins, the animals and the lands that depend on us to take care of them, as they do us, and the future generations to come.My goals are also to uplift BIPOC youth and educate those who don’t understand the struggles, challenges and the oppression we face. To shine a light on the issues that have been kept in the dark for so long.Indigenous voices need to be elevated to the highest levels in all of these conversations. We are at the frontlines of these issues and our lives depend on the health of our lands.”#ThisWeekOnInstagramPhoto of @quannah.rose by Annaka O’Donoghue
