It told a depressing story, one I had come to know over the years: biodiversity was declining and human impacts were increasing. Instead of continuing to write what felt like an obituary to the ocean, I contacted @insidenatgeo and proposed an idea. Could we use exploration, research, and storytelling to help save the ocean? Now, 12 years later, @natgeopristineseas has helped to create 23 marine protected areas across the globe.
