案例简介:Photos by Daniella Zalcman @dzalcman / If you've traveled through the American Southwest, particularly around the Mojave Desert, you've probably seen Joshua trees: the somewhat cartoonish plants that are part of the yucca family. While they've thrived in the United States for the 2.5 million years—seen here under the night sky in California's Joshua Tree National Park last month—climate change and increasing droughts could mean the extinction of this beloved species by 2070. Scientists at UC Riverside recently discovered that unless we curtail our greenhouse gas emissions, only 0.02 percent of existing habitats for the Joshua tree will survive in 50 years. Follow me at @dzalcman for more stories from around the U.S.
