He's kept the belongings of dozens of Haitian migrants as they try to enter the United States. These items are later mailed to his compatriots after they manage to cross the border. Fleurima, who has two master’s degrees in economics and is currently working on a doctorate in global development studies at the Universidad Autónoma de Baja California, says he has no intention of illegally crossing. It's given him a unique role in the community, where he also teaches French at the local high school while doing research on the socioeconomic effects of remittances sent by Haitians abroad on the country. In his free time, he dedicates himself to helping Haitians in Tijuana.
