Recently the nonprofit I founded @TooYoungToWed teamed up with field partner @IRepFoundation for a special event focused on strong dads raising strong daughters. Held in the remote Kenyan village of Kotulpogh, the discussion focused on the roles fathers can play in helping girls realize their full rights and potential. “My mother and father were illiterate, which is why I was not educated," explained Kakaimaa Namoler, father to 9-year-old Faith. "Now I understand that it is important for me to take my child to school. Now that I have set this new path with my firstborn, I will make sure that they all go to school. I have not taken any dowry, so I will not be tempted,” Namoler added. Research has shown that fathers have an immense influence in their daughter’s lives, shaping their self-esteem, building their confidence, and improving their quality of life. When fathers nurture and strengthen the bonds with their child, daughters have more favorable health and well-being outcomes, including a reduced risk of undergoing harmful practices like child marriage and female genital mutilation.
