案例简介:
案例简介:Photo by @jasperdoest / A trainer for a Sarumawashi (monkey performance) group in Kawasaki, Japan, trains a baby macaque on their daily walks. The monkey was captured three months earlier as part of a population management program. ⠀⠀Every year, damage caused by crop-raiding Japanese macaques costs millions of dollars—mostly in lost fruits and vegetables. Growers use fencing, scarecrows, and pyrotechnics to deter monkeys. In some municipalities, farmers can file complaints with agencies that manage programs to trap and kill nuisance animals. As a result, more than 19,000 monkeys are killed in Japan annually, according to the Ministry of the Environment. A byproduct of those eradication programs can be orphaned young monkeys, sometimes collected by concerned citizens and passed along to entertainment groups.Follow @jasperdoest to learn more about the human-wildlife relationship. #humanwildlifeconflict #Japan #wildlifetourism #japanesemacaques #日本Check out Nat Geo's link in bio for more on this story.
