案例简介：Photo by @katieorlinsky | Today we celebrate the people who work behind the scenes to help photographers capture images.I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to highlight two incredible collaborators. While working on a story about migrant blueberry farmworkers and COVID-19 in southern New Jersey, I met Edgar Aquino Huerta, a recent college graduate and filmmaker. Edgar used to be a blueberry farmworker, and his guidance for this story was invaluable. He'd meet me at the crack of dawn to help me find farms with notoriously poor conditions, and connected me to farmworkers and local immigration activists, all while working a day job at a garden store and delivering food bank donations in the evening. Shortly after our collaboration, Edgar made his own film and went on to became an activist, starting work full-time with a farmworkers support committee. I first met Corrine Danner (second image) in 2016 during the Iñupiat community’s annual spring bowhead whale harvest in Utqiagvik for a @natgeo story about how hunting conditions in Alaska have become increasingly dangerous as a result of climate change. We became fast friends, and she introduced me to her parents, both whaling captains. They agreed that I could join a hunt. Utqiagvik is the hub of Alaska’s North Slope and is accustomed to visitors, but it's a risk for a crew to bring an outsider out on the Arctic Ocean sea ice with them amid the dangers they already face—especially one raised in New York City with zero hunting skills. I helped out however I could—breaking trail, hauling meat, ferrying supplies—until Corrine found the perfect job for me: camp cook. From then on, when I wasn’t taking pictures, I spent most of my time flipping burgers on the frozen ocean. It was an incredible privilege and awe-inspiring experience to spend time with Corrine and her family and to learn about their way of life. None of it would have been possible without her.
