Jay Ann says her garden is a source of happiness and beauty in a difficult time.As the pandemic drove economic hardship and revealed failures in infrastructure, people in urban centers have turned back to the land, using plants for therapy, food security, and livelihood. We’re currently back on lockdown as cases surge in the city. Jay Ann was denied the rationed goods she was entitled to—she was told by a local official that members of the LGBT community would not receive any help. It was then that she started propagating the few plants she had. "I focused on my plants. I relaxed and forgot about going hungry," she says.
