She is the first permanent nurse at this research station—the northernmost community in the world. There is no doctor here; in an emergency, a doctor must fly in, or the patient has to be taken out by a helicopter to Longyearbyen, which has a hospital. "Working in Svalbard has been a dream even since I visited Longyearbyen in a work context as a nurse in 1994. I feel comfortable to have the responsibility here alone, with good equipment, the watchman, and help from colleagues in Longyearbyen," she says.
