Royal Mail worked closely with the V&A to supply a list of potential designers whose work should be featured. The set had to include a mix of classic and innovative designs. Sølve Sundsbø was commissioned to photograph the models in dynamic, period-appropriate poses. To ensure that the focus was on the outfits rather than the models, Johnson Banks came up with a radical compromise: the models’ faces and hands were digitally removed, leaving the clothes to speak for themselves.
