案例简介：Photo by @stephenwilkes Park Avenue is a 10-mile boulevard that carries north-south traffic in New York City. It's one of the busiest streets in the city, but when the coronavirus pandemic hit, traffic dropped by nearly 60 percent. Traffic in the city’s 6,000 miles of streets had been curtailed before—due to blizzards, hurricanes, and even religious holidays—but it always managed to rebound within days. With the pandemic, and because of social distancing, Park Avenue (like other major thoroughfares) remained empty for months.In early April, while photographing Manhattan from a helicopter, I was curious to see this iconic view during the peak of the pandemic. As we flew from the East Meadow of Central Park, Park Avenue suddenly emerged. I’ve photographed this avenue countless times—always filled with cars and cabs. Yet here it was, the entire 10-mile stretch of road completely empty and seemingly frozen. When one thinks of the avenues within NYC, Park Avenue is certainly the city's spinal cord. So grateful to National Geographic for its support in giving me the opportunity to document my beloved NYC from the air during the pandemic.
