Petr was instrumental in the discovery of the deepest parts of Veryovkina (the deepest known cave in the world) after spotting a high-level passage, which became an important bypass to one of the siphons. His observation led the team to drop back down into the main gallery leading all the way down to the terminal siphon (2,212 m/7,257 ft deep) and the deepest point in the cave, Capt. Nemo's Last Harbour. Here, Petr is caught squeezing through a tight constriction between two larger sections of the main thoroughfare. A week later, during the flood pulse that suddenly plummeted into these chambers, all of this gallery completely filled up with water and was totally submerged.
