For several months Iraqi youth successfully occupied central Baghdad. Hundreds of protestors were killed and thousands injured, prompting Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi to resign. COVID-19 brought Iraq’s protests to a halt with the rise of curfews and social distancing, but the impact of the protests continues to ripple and in some cases upend the status quo.
