I've seen it too many times: thoughtless boaters who refuse to slow down, even in well-marked areas where manatees are known to travel or rest. Just a few weeks ago, in the Bahamas, the crew of @SeaLegacy was delighted when a manatee approached our sailing catamaran as we docked in a marina. However, we were equally concerned to see how unafraid and unaware it was of the danger posed by our propeller (which was inactive because we were docked). I decided to take a closer look, slipping carefully into the water to inspect our friendly visitor, and I was pained to see that its fluke sported an old propeller wound. We cannot be so selfish; we need to make room for other creatures to live.
